The End of Molasses Classes

I'm sure everyone has heard of Ron Clark..he's the author of

in 2001 he received Disney's Teacher of the Year Award, he was also Oprah Winfrey's pick as her "Phenomenal Man". Ron Clark is a remarkable educator who founded the Ron Clark Academy and is truly making a difference in the field of education. 

In his newest book The End of Molasses Classes he gives parents and teachers inspirational tidbits that will help us grow smarter and healthier children. I LOVE the fact that he has dedicated this book not only to educators but also to our children's 1st teachers...their parents! 

I have recently finished reading this book...and I would like to take a moment to reflect on the parts that have impacted me the most. 

I truly believe in Ron's 12th solution: Set the tone for a love of learning. 

As teachers we need to instill that love of learning in our children. We need to be the model student and let them know that just because we are the teacher does it mean that we have stopped learning...we will never stop learning! I love, love this quote from his book, "the real lesson we need to teach our children is that the man who can actually find the answers to any questions presented to him is the true genius." Doesn't that make a whole lot of sense!?! We do not need to be a walking encyclopedia and know every answer to every question...especially not in today's high-tech world. What we do need to know is HOW to find the answers to our questions...LOVE it!

I would highly recommend reading this book...it is full of inspiring stories and extraordinary advice for both parents and teachers...advice that if followed will make us a great role model in the lives of our children.
